What a pleasant surprise to arrive at work this morning only to find someone left three one-pound boxes of Russell Stover's assorted chocolates on my desk! I immediately knew though that the chocolates were not for me alone; it just so happens that when anyone in our office brings candy to share, they put it on my desk or in my second drawer. I guess I have them very well-trained. : )
Two people told me this morning they noticed I have lost some weight, and that was music to my ears. It's really not that much, but enough to be somewhat noticeable. So now what do I do with all those chocolates? Eat 'em...in moderation of course!
Marcia and I discussed the challenges of relating to our adult sons (her son Marcus is in his mid-twenties and a little more "adult" than Ty). It's not easy maintaining the proper balance of mothering with their developing manhood. Marcia reminded me that the mother/son relationship changes as the sons get older, and they will randomly bless their mothers with some form of appreciation, as Marcus did yesterday by telling Marcia, "Thanks for not being dumb, Mom."
Pastor Shepherd is a retired pastor who works part-time in the men's emergency shelter. He and I have theological discussions and trade books on occasion. Today, I loaned him Graeme Goldsworthy's According to Plan, so I'm looking forward to his take on that book. Pastor Shepherd describes himself as the "closet" Calvinist at the mission, which implies, I suppose, that I'm not so "closet."
