We resumed our Rescue Mission Auxiliary luncheons today after taking the summer off. The attendance was a tad disappointing, but I wasn't too surprised. I'm sure the numbers will pick up again with the fall schedule of events. Included in our regulars are three people who come each month for the luncheon and then skip the program following, always stating they have an appointment. Well, we've been on to them for quite some time, so different staff members linger in the dining room to encourage them to move on to the chapel, but with no success. We know they are just waiting to gather the uneaten desserts to take with them. The same situation occurred today, but this time they were also taking leftover food from the buffet table! Excuse me, but we're talking about taking food from a homeless shelter, and these people are not destitute by any means. Adjustments will be made in future months to alleviate this little problem.
The program speaker told about her involvement in the adoption of a Chinese baby girl through America World Adoption. It was a blessing to hear how the Lord met their needs each step of the way. I am thankful that many American Christian families are choosing foreign adoption as a way to spread the gospel to other tribes and tongues. I almost regret that idea wasn't promoted ten to twenty years ago.
The good news of the day is that I'm done working for the week! I forgot that I get Monday as a paid holiday, and I worked yesterday and today, so I already have my three days in. So, Marilyn, I guess I'll be at Memory Lane early on Friday after all. : )
