This spring, Joel and I finally got around to purchasing another bookshelf to handle all the books that were "floating" around the house, and I have one of the shelves dedicated to all the books I've acquired over the last few years but not yet read. So I feel a little sheepish that we came home from the cruise/conference with more to add to the line-up. In our defense, some of the books/audios/videos were given to us by Ligonier Ministries as part of the conference portion of the cruise. New books make me happy! Getting them read would make me even happier!
Here they are top to bottom:
The Providence of God CDs by R. C. Sproul - The teaching theme of the cruise. Dr. Sproul "explores the day God governs the universe. He shows that God is the paragon of both power and goodness. he reveals that 'chance' is actually a figment of the imagination. Demonstrating that God guides all events without destroying human freedom, Dr. Sproul also shows us that the Lord is never guilty of evil."
The Doctrines of Grace in John by Steven Lawson. "In this [DVD] series, Steven J. Lawson demonstrates that the gospel of John offers one of the clearest presentations of the doctrines of grace in all of Scripture, revealing that salvation is all of God from beginning to end."
The Mortification of Sin by John Owen - a Puritan's view of how to deal with our sinful tendencies and attitudes.
The Work of Christ by R. C. Sproul. R. C.'s newly released book "looks at each part of Christ's life and asks: What is the greater theological implication of this event? Why does this matter to us today?"
The Call to Wonder: Loving God like a Child by R. C. Sproul, Jr. I've already begun to read this book, and I appreciate how he helps the reader recapture a childlike wonder toward the things of God. If you like Notes from the Tilt-A-Whirl by N. D. Wilson, you'll like this book, too.
The Freedom of the Will by Jonathan Edwards. In this classic work, "Edwards annihilated false views of the will that prevailed in his century and in ours, in order that men may know how to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved." ~ John Gerstner
Believing God: Twelve Biblical Promises Christians Struggle to Accept by R. C. Sproul, Jr. Sproul, Jr. focuses on a dozen of the greatest promises in Scripture, presenting the clear biblical meaning of each one, but also striving to help his readers grasp the sheer wonder and glory of it."
Mark by R. C. Sproul - from the St. Andrew's Expositional Commentary series.
Worship: The Ultimate Priority by John MacArthur. "Pastor John MacArthur leads you in a clear discovery of Bible passages on whom and how to worship. You will learn that worship is any essential expression of service rendered unto God by a soul who loves and extols Him for who He is. Therefore, real worship should be the full-time, non-stop activity of every believer."
Foundations of Grace: A Line of Godly Men by Steven J. Lawson. "The teaching of the sovereign grace literally stretches from cover to cover in the Bible." This book covers the Old Testament. We also have Lawson's second book in the series, "Pillars of Grace."
