Alaska Cruise: Day Three

We arrived in Ketchikan early Sunday morning, and instead of getting ready for a worship service, Joel and I dressed for our excursion into the wilderness in TomCars. (Don't worry; the Ligonier group had a late afternoon worship service, and we were all good with that.)  TomCars are military grade off-road utility vehicles, and they are a blast!  Joel and I shared one car and switched drivers at the halfway point. For our safety on the old logging roads, our guide wouldn't go over 40 mph, but, considering the rugged terrain, that speed provided enough bumpy thrills for me.

Joel ready to roll.

Time for a little science lesson:  The plant in the middle is a skunk cabbage (remember the mention in Anne of Green Gables?), and it is eaten by bears in the spring to clean out their digestive system.
I know you wanted to know that.

The waterfall at the half-way point of the trail.

The view from one of the overlooks.

I'm ready to go again!  :)
