It's been quite some time since I've posted on my blog, and I've been missing it! Joel and I took a road trip over the extended Memorial Day weekend, picking up our daughter Ashlea in Louisville before traveling on to Kansas to visit relatives and discuss upcoming wedding plans with Tyler and Baillie.
One thing I really like about road trips is the time devoted to reading. Instead of listening to talk radio or music incessantly, I read aloud to Joel while he does most of the driving. This trip we read Red Like Blood by Joe Coffey and Bob Bevington, one of the books Joel brought home from the Camp Barakel men's retreat. I love this book's authenticity and transparency! Each chapter features stories and anecdotes about both authors and some of the people they have met along their life journeys. Be forewarned, though, that this book is not sugar-coated, so to speak. It depicts the reality and gravity of sin, but it also testifies that God's grace is powerful to save a lost sinner, as well as transform a Christian struggling with addictions. There were several times when I had to stop reading for a few minutes just to bask in the goodness of God's grace to heal spiritual brokenness. Those who read it will be encouraged and challenged by the power of the gospel.
