I guess they don't call it social networking for nothing. Last weekend I joined a new Facebook group called "You Know You Grew Up in Concordia, Kansas if...," and by the end of the first week, there were almost eight hundred members! It has been so much fun reading and participating in the discussion threads about everything from school memories to favorite hang-outs and landmarks. And it's been somewhat surreal to see names of people I haven't thought about in forty years. When one member posted a picture of Mrs. Pearson, my first grade teacher, I knew I had to find my stash of school photos. Joel offered to search our basement, and it didn't take him long to emerge with the box. I scanned and uploaded my kindergarten class composite photo to the site, and within an hour, several old classmates and I were having a "kindergarten class reunion." We enjoyed the challenge of remembering and tagging as many people in the picture as possible. It will be interesting to see how long the momentum of the group continues, but for now, it's a pastime filled with wonderful memories.
