Still At It

I think this is Ashlea's fourth trip to Lakeshore, Mississippi since hurricane Katrina. A small group from her church went down for an extended weekend to do more rebuilding. Although New Orleans got all the press, Lakeshore was the location where the highest wall of water hit land, totally devastating the community. It will be several more years before reconstruction is complete. Lakeshore Baptist is spearheading much of the effort, as well as seeing to the needs of the residents. They have a continual stream of volunteers from churches all over the country...Christianity in action.

The new church building. Note from Ashlea: this is a temporary church building that will be used until all the members' homes are rebuilt. They will then construct their permanent building.

The upgrade to four Quonset huts for shelter and the restroom, named after the four gospels...guess which one is the restroom. ;)

They were welcomed Thursday night with a shrimp boil.

Ashlea in the red hat...armed and dangerous! ;)

More Ashlea...

  2. It's so great to see Christians in action, living out what they say they believe.
