My Vicarious Vacation

It's a terrible thing to be left home alone when the rest of your family goes on a trip...especially when they go "home." My brother jokingly suggested that Joel and Tyler sneaked out in the middle of the night, but that wasn't the case at all. Work commitments wouldn't allow me to go, so I waved them off early last Friday morning as they began the fifteen hour trip to Kansas. I even packed them a lunch and snacks (you know men...they hate to stop for any reason other than to get gas). The main purpose of the trip was so Ty could attend orientation at Kansas State University, where he will be attending this fall. They padded their trip with a few extra days so they could see some of our relatives and attend the Smoky Hill River Festival. Joel was kind enough to call me periodically to keep me posted on all the fun they were having. They arrived home early yesterday morning after driving all night, and Tyler is already back at Camp Barakel. For all intents and purposes, we are now an empty nest.
