Dr. Michael Haykin, Principal of Toronto Baptist Seminary, was the speaker at the Mid-Michigan Conference on Reformed Theology today in Davison. He also serves as Adjunct Professor of Church History at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Dr. Haykin knows some of Ashlea's church friends. As he said, "Immanuel is full of Canadians!" That's for sure. It would take way too long to cover his four sessions, but the topics were: The Reformed View of History, The Reformed View of the Certainty of Salvation (what it means to be sealed by the Spirit), The Reformed View of the Believer's Responsibility (he used the Reformers' fight to end slavery in England as an example), and The Reformed View of Worship (he focused on how Christ is present during the Lord's Supper). I'm looking forward to getting the CDs, so I can hear the material again. I couldn't begin to absorb all the information in one sitting. It must be a sign of old age. And Ashlea, I got you an autographed book to add to your collection...you may thank me later. : )
Our pastor at Berean in Grand Blanc, who performed our wedding and has remained a close friend, is Norman Street. He was Principal of Toronto Baptist Seminary until his retirement and relocation to Greenville, MI. The pastor of the Tamil church - Mano Joseph - where Mike, Randy and Rick would minister in Toronto is a grad of TBS. I didn't know he was also adjunct prof at SBTS! It's really a small world, isn't it? I had reached exhaustion city by the time we got home Saturday. We spent the week in Arkansas visiting Mike's Mom, and I have remained semi-conscious until this am. However, I did read my chapter last night before bed and have NO excuse for not completing my questions....but if pressed I'm sure I can think of one. The cat ate my lesson! :- )
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your class!
Roxie, you can only use that excuse once! : )
