Something Different

I love banana bread, toasted with butter spread all over the top. But banana bread is not just for breakfast anymore...it can also become an easy dessert. Just put a slice of toasted banana bread (still warm) in a bowl, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel topping. It is delicious! I've tried a number of different recipes for banana bread and finally found one I really like...it's moist and a little sweeter than other recipes. Here it is:

1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1/2 cup sour milk
1 t. soda
3 bananas, mashed
1/2 cup nuts - optional

Cream the shortening and sugar; add the eggs and mix together. Dissolve soda in sour milk and add alternately with flour. Add mashed bananas and nuts. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour (or until done) in 2 loaf pans. (To sour 1/2 cup milk, add 1 T. vinegar.)
