Ashlea "tagged" me. Now I have completed my personalized book list, such as it is. Please bear in mind that I don't consider myself to be a student of literature, but it's an interesting exercise all the same.
1. One book that changed your life: Transforming Grace by Jerry Bridges (a wonderful eye-opener concerning God's grace in our lives)
2. One book that you've read more than once: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (I prefer the abridged version.)
3. One book I'd want on a desert island: Besides my Bible, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by Tolkien (If that's all I had, I'd probably, maybe, surely get through them, and I might actually, potentially, suprisingly discover I like them. I can just hear the gasps!)
4. One book that made me laugh: Recollection Creek by Fred Gipson (author of Old Yeller) - this book is no longer in print and is therefore a collectible. It's the story of the hilarious antics of a young boy in early day Texas. I loved this book so much that I acquired a copy for both Ashlea and Tyler.
5. One book that made me cry (and that doesn't happen very often): Munich Signature by Bodie Thoene - the third book in the Zion Covenant series (WWII historical fiction)
6. One book that you wish you had written: The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul
7. One book you wish had never been written: Lectures on Revivals of Religion by Charles Grandison Finney - This is considered to be the most influential book (directly or indirectly) on modern evangelicalism (the audience-centered church growth movement).
8. One book that you are currently reading: How about two? The Goldsworthy Trilogy by Graeme Goldsworthy (Gospel and Kingdom, Gospel and Wisdom, The Gospel in Revelation);
Mr. Monk Goes to the Firehouse by Lee Goldberg (the first in the mystery series of Adrian Monk - the obsessive, compulsive detective - what a hoot!)
9. One book that you've been meaning to read: The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky
Since none of my friends are bloggers, I can't officially tag anyone. However, I'd really be interested in seeing lists from a few of you, so if you make a list and send it to me, I'll post it on my blog. How's that?
