Cumberland Falls - Day One

We're thankful someone informed us of the natural beauties found in the Cumberland Falls State Park in Kentucky. The area has several waterfalls, miles of hiking trails, and offers a variety of water sports. Joel, Ashlea, and I spent Saturday at the Cumberland Falls and Eagle Falls (shown in the pictures). Cumberland Falls, with its semi-horseshoe shape, has been dubbed the Niagara of the South. It is the only waterfall in the western hemisphere that has regular moonbows. At each full moon (and a day on either side of the full moon), if the sky is clear, a moonbow will form over the falls. Saturday night/Sunday morning was a scheduled time, so we duly took our afternoon naps, so we could stay up until 1:00 a.m. in hopes of seeing the phenomenon. Sure enough, around 12:30 a.m., we began to see the bow form, and as the hour passed, it became more visible. The bow didn't form a complete arch, more common in the colder months, but it was worth the wait!
