The Greatest Gift

Since it's that time of year when we're all caught up in making our gift list and checking it twice, it is good to stop and think about the very first "Christmas list"...the one made by our Heavenly Father before time began (Titus 1:2), the one with the names of those chosen in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). Those on this list will receive the most precious gift of all, salvation through faith in Christ, and the purchase price of the list is staggering to consider.

Yesterday, during worship, we looked at a familiar passage of scripture, Isaiah 53. I encourage you to read through that chapter during this holiday season. It's a sobering reminder that Jesus was born to die, that the long-awaited Messiah would be the Suffering Servant. Jesus' suffering was the required payment for our sin. The spotless, innocent Lamb of God was the only one worthy to make things right between God and the sinner. It is by his stripes that we are healed. He was obedient to suffer the wrath of His Father in our place, and because of his obedience, he was highly exalted. Hallelujah, what a Savior we have!
