Done Deal

What started out last Friday as "casual" car shopping quickly became deliberate car shopping...no surprise there. Thank goodness for the internet. Joel was able to zero in on a few cars that we would seriously consider, which made the face-to-face sales encounters almost bearable. You've gotta love car salesmen and their gimmicks to befriend the customers. My "favorite" was the family photo album presentation. I wouldn't call it torture, but ten minutes of viewing his children's wedding pictures was more than we should have had to endure. Not all the salesmen were so universally charming. When we mentioned that we would be trading in Joel's "hoopdee" (his little Saturn with some body issues) one salesman suggested that maybe we should just give it to someone. Another one offered us a whopping $300.00...translation: they didn't want it either. Fortunately for us, one dealership happened to be running a $2000 pull, push, or drag trade-in sale, and the salesman didn't even cringe when he saw our trade. In fact, he said it was one of the better cars they had received that day. Whatever. The salesman took our offer to the sales manager, and it was returned with this note: "Ok - you win. That one hurt!" I'm sure. All the schmoozing aside, we think we ended up with a pretty good deal on a used Nissan Maxima. Best part of the deal...I'll be driving it! :)
