I guess this is my version of "Man on the Street," where I am asking you readers to answer the following question:
What do you think the government should provide for you? If you're so inclined, please include the reasoning for your beliefs. As always, anonymous comments are welcomed.
According to the constitution, which I am basing my comments on, the government should provide things like roads and postal services, firemen, police, ect (whatever blanket name you want to call that general group) a judicial system, good laws to live by, and national security (army, negotiations, ect). I'm pretty sure that is all. The greer the market, the better.

ReplyDeleteLets see....a house, a car, gas to put in my car, health care, food, what to think and say, take care of all my utilities, some money when I need it.....NOT!!!

Jeff...you know your book allowance would come with strings attached. The "government approved" books would not be of interest to you. ;)
ReplyDeleteI was recently asked a question similar to this on an application. I answered: "The ideal role of government is to operate based on the principal of federalism, leaving most power to local and state governments, while it creates a legal framework most conducive to competition within society and protects its citizen’s life, liberty, and property, from threats both foreign and domestic."
ReplyDeleteIn short, government should only have a minor judicial role and national security role. And it's laws should only allow for increased competition in the market, not it's decrease.
Based on the fact that government doesn't make anything better it should be as minimal as possible: no schools, no postal service, no money for the arts, etc.
Ben...well stated and a good reminder. Our country has drifted so far from these beliefs.
