I've heard that, when questioned about the source of the phrase "from each according to his ability to each according to his need," some Americans will say it's found in our U. S. Constitution. That just boggles my mind! But what is more troubling is that, even if Americans do know this is a basic tenet of Karl Marx, many apparently have no problem with our country's continued movement in that direction. Now we're even being told it is a sign of our patriotism! The indoctrination has been very successful.
We happened to be discussing the Wall Street bailout at work recently, and a question was raised about socialism. I attempted to explain its fallacies by remembering an essay I once read. In this essay, the teacher devised a lesson that taught the harmful consequences of socialism by redistributing his students' grade points. I could not find the essay, so I shot an email off to my "research assistant" who quickly located it here. He also found a sports analogy here. That one is also good, but it would be much more interesting had football been used instead of baseball. I'm not buying the line about baseball being an exciting game...sorry. ;)
Nice. It's scary to listen to the debate and realize we're only hearing two different versions of socialism: Socialism and Socialism Lite.
ReplyDeleteI can't even bring myself to watch the debates. I would have to shout at the TV and then Hubby would remind me that they can not hear me. If only they could!
