But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). Ephesians 2:4-5
As one who came to faith in college through that famous booklet, The Four Spiritual Laws, I can see how my conversion was unusual in that I responded to the Gospel the first time I heard it. As a Catholic I knew quite well about my sin and Christ's death on the cross to atone for sin, but I lacked an understanding of how to connect myself to that finished work.
In our post-modern, post-Christian culture such conversion experiences will continue to be rare. We need to see that people will come to faith as we spend time with them and unravel their false ideas and assumptions. This will require investing time in learning theology and doctrine. It always helps to be in a church where expository, verse by verse preaching is always on the menu.
And for the sake of the gospel message, I've found that we need to spend time even with believers to help them unravel their false ideas, such as the examples Ligon mentioned at the end of the video.
Right. All the more reason for creeds and confessions, catechism work, solid doctrinal Christian education and expository preaching both morning and night.
Excellent!
