Thirty and Counting

I
know it's hard to believe that I'm old enough to have been married for thirty years...and let's leave the math alone. ;) Joel took it
upon himself to plan a special anniversary trip to Mackinac Island, and he did a superb job with the arrangements. We packed our bags and loaded our bikes on Monday morning, and made it to Mackinac City in time to catch the noon ferry. I heard that it was especially warm here at home that day, but we weren't so fortunate. The fog was so thick and the air so chilly that the first item on my agenda after we set foot on the island was to purchase another layer in the form of a sweatshirt. We rode our bikes around the east side to the British Landing, then cut through the island to the The Inn at Stonecliff, a lovely Edwardian style mansion built in 1905. Rather than brave the elements, we spent the remainder of the afternoon in the living area, playing cribbage while other guests arrived. I couldn't help but imagine myself being caught up in some Agatha Christie mystery. We had our dinner at the inn as well...steak with a crab meat hollandaise sauce, roasted asparagus, and the best creme brulee I've ever tasted (notice the blueberries coated in confectioners' sugar). The sun finally made an appearance in the evening, so we hopped on our bikes and rode around the west bluff area. On Tuesday, we did more biking and fudge shopping until it was time to board the afternoon ferry. We think this was our twelfth trip to Mackinac Island, and we never tire of its beauty and uniqueness.
Child Bride.
