Ashlea has been in Louisville almost four years now, and we finally took an opportunity to tour Churchill Downs, a huge horse racing complex dating back to 1875. We learned that only six percent of those involved in racing horses actually make a profit. The owners of champion horses will make much more money through breeding. For example, Big Brown was purchased this spring for $3.5 million, and they expect his breeding income will run well over the $10 million mark. Incidentally, Big Brown is sponsored by Ashlea's employer, UPS, and he eats beet shreds from Joel's plant...small world. The Kentucky Derby winners are allowed to be buried at Churchill Downs...well, parts of them I should say. They only bury the head, heart, and hooves, representing the mind, will, and speed of a champion. I'm glad that only applies to horses. ;)
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). Ephesians 2:4-5

Isn't that such an amazing place? Just standing under the twin spires and thinking about all that happened there over the years. Did you get to see any races? And did you see Big Brown win the Preakness? He could go all the way !!

We took time to watch two horse races. It would be an incredible experience to be there for the Derby...maybe someday. ;)
