A Rocky Day

This morning Joel and I found ourselves at a loss. Because it was cold and rainy, we couldn't take a day trip or an extended bike ride as discussed, and we weren't interested in seeing the new Harry Potter movie. Our next best idea...go to WalMart. While there, we looked through the bargain DVDs and came across the first four Rocky movies. What memories! The first Rocky was released the year I graduated from high school (I was a young grad, just so you know), and I have been a faithful Rocky fan ever since. I even took the opportunity while Joel was at the men's retreat this spring to rent the one released last year. Joel and I discussed which of the four was our personal favorite. He likes the Rocky IV best...the Cold War era contest between Rocky and the steroid-enhanced Soviet "machine." That might have been my favorite had it not been for the unrealistic, sappy ending (yes, even sappier than the others). My favorite is the third movie...the "Eye of the Tiger" challenge between Clubber Lang (remember Mr. "T"?) and Rocky. There's just something about Clubber's growling trash-talk that is hard to resist. Seriously though, in all the Rocky movies, it's not really the fight scenes that garner my interest; it's all the training scenes. How can you not be impressed by his hanging sit-ups, one-armed push-ups, horizontal hand-stands, etc? Now that's what I call a real chick flick. Well anyway, we ended up buying both Rocky III and Rocky IV, and watching them this afternoon...not a bad way to spend a rainy day.

  1. Hmmm- - - Rocky or Harry? Rocky or Harry? At this house, Harry wins every time. Hands down! Sorry.:)

  2. Yeah, our children are Harry fans too. I did try to read one of the books, and I've seen bits and pieces of the movies...not interested.
