Kansas Revisited

Joel and I flew to Kansas last week, and it was another reminder of the new phase in our lives, traveling without children. We spent the first few days with my mom and her husband Art in Salina. Three of my four brothers and my sister (and extended family) also came to visit. And I got to see my new great-niece, Ella, who is about six weeks old. Much of our time together was spent at the Smoky Hill River Festival, an annual event sponsored by the Salina Arts and Humanities Association. With 31 years of experience, they know how to do a festival right...three stages of ongoing entertainment, 150 nationally recognized artists and craftsmen, children's games and artistry, roving entertainment, and the wonderful array of festival food. (I'll be posting more about the festival later.) We also got together with Joel's brother and wife for dinner one evening. The last couple days were spent with Joel's parents in Concordia, our home town. It's always good to connect with our roots, so to speak. The trip seemed pretty much flawless until we flew home on Tuesday. Our flight from Wichita was delayed by about two hours, and although we barely made our connection in Atlanta, our luggage did not. We're praying it will eventually be delivered to us...with everything intact.
