I've been decluttering today, and as I was going through the closet in Ashlea's old room, I came across a spiral notebook of hers entitled "Bed Time Storys," a collection of stories she wrote in the second grade (ergo the misspelled words). As I took a few moments to scan the notebook, I came across this story that represents Ashlea's seemingly innate desire for shock effect...even at the young age of seven and as a student of a Christian school. I remember wondering what Mrs. Rickert thought about this one...it was even illustrated. :/
FROG COUSINS by Ashlea Davenport
Once there were three frogs. Their names were Jenny, Benny and Mikey. They were cousins. They were orfins. They lived on a lilly pad. One day they went to see Froglins. They saw there best friend Billy after the movie. They went to the store. They couldn't read. They wanted coke, but they bought beer. They took it home and they had a party. They got drunk. They bought a new corvet. Mikey drove the corvet into the pond. Everybody drowned. That was the end of that family.
Wow. I'm glad you found the notebook; I was wondering where it had gone. : )
