I don't think I mentioned yesterday that our seminar, Leadership That Lasts, is conducted by Molitor International, based in Midland. Over the last two days we have studied these four characteristics of a great leader: clear purpose and direction, skilled communication, integrity, and caring. So one of our exercises today was to identify either the greatest leader of all time (in our opinion), or some leader who has had the greatest impact on your life. Everyone had to give a short presentation explaining why they selected said person, what principles they lead and lived by, what personal characteristics and behaviors they demonstrated, and the short and long term impacts of their leadership. Who would you choose? I shared why I believed Jesus to be the greatest leader of all time, based on the premise that all history revolves around Him and His purposes being fulfilled. A few others mentioned that Jesus was the greatest leader but went on to talk about someone else who had impacted their life. I find it interesting that in a diverse group such as this, Christians can usually identify one another within a relatively short period of time. And it's also interesting how quickly various personality types can be identified...the power mongers, the sanguines, melancholies, etc. I feel somewhat at a disadvantage because I don't have the same work experience as most of the people in the group, but we are frequently reminded that these principles are necessary for effective leadership in our homes, churches, civic groups...wherever we have influence. Overall, the class has been beneficial; I'm anxious to see what tomorrow brings. And by the way, I found my van with no difficulty this evening. It was right where I left it. : )
