God's perspective on the freedom He gives us in salvation? Really!
But God's Word says...
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12-13
"All that the Father gives Me will come to me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out." John 6:37
"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:44
"You did not choose me, but I chose you." John 15:16a
"Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed." Acts 13:48
"Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will." Ephesians 1:4-5
"And you He made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins." Ephesians 2:1
"In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things to the counsel of His will." Ephesians 1:11-12
"(God)who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began." 2 Timothy 1:9
"But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel." 2Thessalonians 2:13
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His son that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified." Romans 8:28-30
And Romans chapter 9 on the sovereignty of God which I won't copy here. The truth of the matter is that we are born spiritually dead in our trespasses and sins, and there is absolutely no goodness in us that would enable us to choose Christ apart from the purposeful work of the Holy Spirit. God does not, could not, set aside His sovereignty for anything, so if we belong to Christ, it is because He quickened our spirit and caused the regenerating work in our life. If it were left up to me to choose "yes" or "no" as the song suggests, I would have always said "no." Thank you Lord for calling me to be one of your own.
Jeanette, you must stop this. I can't quit laughing. My back hurts from laughing. When I'm done yuckin' it up I'll cry. I'll cry a lot because I once believed this and even taught this. Shame on me. God, forgive me.
