Christmas Moments

We had a pretty busy day yesterday with church, company for dinner, and our trip to Frankenmuth to get Ashlea and attend the Christmas eve service at St. Lorenz, so it was very nice to have a relaxed day at home today. Ashlea was up at 5:00 a.m. wanting to open presents! I insisted that she wait until 6:00 a.m. to wake Ty; our presents were all opened before 8:00 a.m. - the time that normal people are just getting up on Christmas morning. I wasn't disappointed with the reactions to a few of my gifts: Tyler was absolutely amazed that we got him the complete collection of Calvin and Hobbes (24 lbs. worth of the comic strip), Joel was equally pleased that I got him a set of Looney Tunes DVDs (our early exposure to classical music and opera), and Ashlea never would have guessed that I would buy her three new nose rings. If they hadn't been on sale - buy one and get two free - I wouldn't have bothered. Just can't pass up a good bargain...even if it's nose jewelry!

We did go out to look at lights this evening. One house in Essexville has over 22,000 lights that are choreographed by computer to twenty-five minutes of Christmas music. The owner must be a real geek, because he broadcasts the music over the radio through a FM transmitter. Very impressive! Our neighbor also vies for the best lighting award each year, and his display is something to see. I'm not saying it's tasteful...it's just something to see. Poor Tyler...he has to try to sleep with all that illumination coming through his blinds.

I'm hoping to get some pictures posted tomorrow of our family Christmas. It's been a good one. : )
