Mission Happenings

The Rescue Mission auxiliary held its second annual client style show last week, and it was even better than last year's show. Marcia (rhymes with Garcia, as she always says) was the impetus behind the event...she's the fashion guru. I'm just along to assist where I can, but I do get to read half the style show script. After doing a lot of whining about their insecurities, the clients really did a nice job, and I know they enjoyed themselves. Much to Marcia's chagrin, one of the guys turned into a real ham on stage, and the audience loved it.

I wasn't present yesterday at the mission's radio-thon, but about 15 of my volunteers were there to man the phones. I heard today that one volunteer (Frank) told everyone within listening distance about "the drawer" in my desk and all the junk food contained within. He told his listeners that he tries to get us to reform by bringing us healthy food, but we're not remotely interested in changing our ways. It really depends on the day, but the drawer does not
contain only junk food. Once in awhile someone will slip in something like low-fat granola bars, and guess what...they stay there for a long time. When my volunteers or other staff members come to "the drawer," they are not usually looking for healthy! Chocolate is the flavor of choice, and if we're out of chocolate, Starbursts, Dots, or Twizzlers have to suffice. I guess everyone has their vice, and it's no secret what mine is...at least this one.
