Anniversary

The Saginaw Rescue Mission Auxiliary was recognized for 55 years of ministry at our monthly luncheon meeting today. We had one lady present that was part of the charter group in 1951, and she reminisced about the early days; how times have changed! It was heart-warming to see so many others in attendance that have given years of service to the mission. In preparation for the program, I did some research in the mission archives to compile a lengthy list of items the auxiliary has purchased for the mission over the years. Just since 1998, the group's donations have exceeded $28,000, an average of over $3,000 per year. This money is primarily raised through member offerings and the sales from the auxiliary gift shop; that's a lot for our small organization. Joel and I used the old photos and articles I found in the archives to put together a video slideshow of the auxiliary through the years, set to the song "Unto Me" by Twila Paris. The video depicted the legacy of precious souls (many who are now with the Lord) that were/are a testimony of these words from the song:

"Go and find your neighbor
Find a friend in need
Go and find the widow
With a hungry child to feed
When you help the helpless
That is true Christianity
Whatever you've done
To the least of these
You have done it unto Me"
