The original plan for Mom's birthday party was to have a potluck picnic in the city park, but my family has a habit of escalating simple plans until they become events! We ended up having an Italian dinner for family and close friends at a local hall, followed by a reception and dance open to other guests. Good thing too... the temperature that day was over 100 degress!
