Happenings

The Rescue Mission Auxiliary had its annual "picnic" today at the Community Village pavilion. I say picnic, but it was really gourmet al fresco. Chef Jim prepared gazpacho soup, appetizers, cucumber salad, the really good grape salad with cream cheese and sour cream dressing (I could feast on that!), tossed salad, fresh fruit with chocolate sauce, rice pilaf, grilled vegetables, scrumptious marinated and grilled chicken breasts, salmon with fresh asparagus, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. I want you to know I didn't eat everything...I passed on the tossed salad.

Later, back at the mission...Karen, Marcia, and I got into an interesting discussion about becoming mother-in-laws. Karen is well-seasoned in that role, so we were gleaning her godly wisdom. Don't jump to any conclusions. Tyler says he is years from being ready for marriage. And Ashlea...well, the Lord could provide her a "prince amongst men" anytime now as far as I'm concerned.

Joel and I enjoyed a leisurely bike ride after dinner (I had to do something after consuming all that food) along the country roads east of our house. I love this time of year just before harvest. The crops look so healthy, and there is a fall-like crispness in the air...in Michigan that is. It was good to take time to marvel at the Lord's creative power.
