"Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." I Peter 4:9-10
Next month, we'll be celebrating my Mother's 75th birthday, and one of my brothers suggested we each write an anecdote to share about Mom at the party. As I've been thinking about our times together over the years, I just can't come up with one incident of particular significance or humor (I think this might be because I seem to go through life in somewhat of a mental cloud). But, what is significant to my memories of Mom is her giftedness in the area of hospitality. She is unassuming; there is a natural warmth to her that makes family and friends know they are loved, and strangers soon become friends. Somehow she has been able to come through the many trials of her life without being tainted by cynicism. Mom does purpose to look for the goodness in others, though sometimes that may be a real challenge. It is indeed a blessing to have a mother that is a testimony to the manifold grace of God.
In the meantime, I'll keep trying to think of an appropriate anecdote, but I know better than to share the one about the upholstery material (sport denim, she says) outfits. Yeah, that one is better left alone. ; )
