That's the word we used to describe this day. Joel and I made our annual trip to Mackinac Island today, and I don't think it could have been any better: 80 degrees, slight breeze, and pure blue skies. Of course we took our bikes, and we were able to cover about 20 miles before my knees were crying for mercy. We rode the island's eight mile shoreline road before lunch, and then traveled the wooded state park trails in the afternoon. We found the Leslie Avenue trail (a new one for us), and that was a blast! There's nothing like riding as fast as you can down the cool shaded hills. But that also means you have to go up hills. : ( That's why my knees hurt. Since Ashlea and Tyler weren't with us (we missed you both), we were able to go at our own pace, enjoying the scenery and taking pictures. I'll be posting pictures tomorrow.
We decided to splurge and eat the Grand Hotel five course lunch buffet. I am completely convinced gluttony is a sin, and my punishment was the aching stomach I had for over an hour afterward. I don't remember when I had ever been so miserable from eating. I should have taken the lesson from Debbie (from two years ago) and hit the dessert table first! Those of you that have eaten at the Grand Hotel can relate, I'm sure. It's just a good thing we bought our 1 1/2 pounds of Mackinac Island fudge before the gluttonfest. : )
