WHAT A RACKET

Joel is off to DEtroit today for his semi-annual attendance at smoke school, one of the pleasures of being factory superintendent. He and several other Michigan Sugar employees are required to have their eyeballs recalibrated every 6 months, so they can read the opacity of smoke from the stacks, know the level of pollutants emitted into the air, and subsequently file the proper reports. The Department of Environmental Quality - what we could do without them!!
