Saving Face

One concern I've had for the last six springs (excluding 2007) was what the neighbors thought of our pathetic, flowerless wisteria vine. I could just imagine them commenting, "What IS that big, bushy, green thing in the middle of the Davenports' backyard...and why don't they cut it down, for Pete's sake?" Well, this spring I can hold my head high! After years of patiently encouraging the temperamental plant to bloom, our patience has paid off. Actually, I think the vine heard us say last year that it had one more chance - "No flowers next year and it's outta here!" We were so excited to see it loaded with blooms that we bought an arbor to replace the undersized (and cracked) trellis. Joel spent his weekend assembling, sawing, measuring, digging, mixing, and stabilizing to get the finished result (though he did take off to fly gliders with the neighbors for a while). Isn't it lovely?
